Jonric: In terms of an initial introduction for our readers, what kind of real-time strategy game is Rising Kingdoms, what is its overall scale, and what sets it apart? Ivko Stanilov: Rising Kingdoms is a fast-paced real-time strategy game set in a fantasy world. Recently, our efforts were rewarded with the chance to question Co-Lead Designer and Lead Programmer Ivko Stanilov and Programmer Alexander Savchovsky. Having learned some basic facts about the endeavor some time ago, we've naturally been after further information ever since. Adding an RPG-like flavor, these champions can develop their skills and equip powerful artifacts. The latter involves controlling heroes and a small squad of troops. In the former, the major Human, Forester and Darkling races can capture, enslave and develop the independent Shade, Nomad, Dragon, Troll, and Elf nations. The new project, which will ship later this month in parts of Europe, features strategy and adventure modes.

It marks a shift to the fantasy realm from the team's previous historical focus in the Celtic Kings series et al. Rising Kingdoms is the latest real-time strategy title from developer Haemimont Games. Through the power of shining steel and ancient magic, scores of small kingdoms vie for what each believes is its rightful place of dominance. The legacy of the past continues to cast a hateful, deadly pall. Now, generations later, little has changed. As you might expect, skirmishes and border conflicts came next, then battles and ultimately savage wars that brought nearly total destruction. All too quickly, this escalated to petty bickering that led to the raising of armies. Taken aback and lacking the guidance they relied on from their respective deities, the races soon lost trust in each other. Then, without warning, the gods that had selected them to reside there went silent. The world of Equiada knew peace for centuries, allowing the inhabitants to live in prosperity and to construct great cities across the entire breadth of the land.
